By the 27th Annual Report, oovering the year 1892, which was presented at the last Annual Meeting of these Institutions, on 7th June, it was shown that during the twelve months, up to Slst December last, with which this Report deals, 8.047 fresh cases of children were dealt with. No fewer than 4,868 rescued boys and girls were on an average resident in the Homes throughout the year, and the actual numbfir.in residence at the close of the year was 4,705. Of the fresh cases admitted during the twelve months 1,244 had actually been on the ' streets, sleeping out, or rescued from common lodginghouses, or the custody of thieves, prostitutes and persons of abandoned life. 727 selected boys and girls were, during 1892, placed out in the Colonies, making a grand total of 5,787 emigrants since the commencement of the work, over 98 pep twit.

Children were admitted throughout the year from 161 different districts in the Metropolis; from 262
cities, towns and villages in England,
Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and 15 places abroad. There are now nearly 5,000 boys and girls in rejwdende, needing daily food and care, and that owing to the hot summer weather and the absence of friends on holiday the receipts have sunk to thejr very lowest, antf the ti^pdtff is practically empty.
