A Man Drowned.
We regret to have to record a fatal boafc accident, which occurred at Mr GledhiU's mill, yesterday. In the afternoon about three o'clock, two men, B. Osborne and — Ryan were crossing from the south bank of the river, where they were cutting fire wood, to the mill, in a flat bottomed boafc. When fche boafc reached about fche middle of fche river, owing to there being a bit of a fresh, and a heavy gale blowing, she swamped and put; the men in the water. Osborne, who was a good swimmer, advised-Ryan fco cling fco fche boat, whilst he, fearing the boat would nofc support both, would swim to the shore. Some bands from the mill went out in a canoe, to the rescue, and went to the boat and got Ryan, Osborne! then. being seen swimming to shore, and then, looking round to go to Osborne's assistance, fchey missed him. About that part of the river there is a kind of eddy and ifc is surmised thafc Osborne musfc have got caught in ifc and sucked down, as his body was nofc noticed to have risen at all. The constable was notified and immediately started fco lend assistance in the search which, up to now we regrefc to say has proved unsuccessful.
