■ V- - -W . f\ i I The Good Templar locial and entertainment on Thursday evening last proved a great, suepejs. Tta hall, the interior of w'h|cli2sQ>qeji much brightened and improved by many little tasteful and ornamental devices, was well filled with an ap- / preciable audience and looked yeyy ' nice indeed. One thing, howev«r tl is badly needed, ventilation;; The at* mosphere on Thursday evening wai stifling. The Good Templars, we suppose, have got so used to ventilating their particular views on the Drink business that they forgot about the necessity of pure air at an open meeting. If we may venture a suggestion which was driven home to us before the meeting broke up, we think a good supply of air (not 1 gas ; there was enough of that going about) might he got by taking
the roof off the building ; or, falling that, by knocking out one of the gablo ends. "A word to the wise. 1 '— The social was very enjoyable, as it was meant to be* and waa.well carried out in every details The entertainment was, as usua', of a general character, songs, readings, recitations and short addresses following each other in quick succession, until the hour of closing arrived all too soon. We have not b^Srjupplied with a copy of the' programme; consequently we had had some difficulty in getting the names of the various items, and to avoid mistakes, we omit it altogether. In the course of the evening the Secretary stated amid applause, that within the last month he had been able to forward to the Otaki Electoral Registrar about 100 applications for the franchise, and that of these rather more than three-fourths were from' women residing in Foxton or the immediate neighbourhood. He also spoke hopefully of the appgarance 1 at the right time of a cajjdidftte "of the right colour " on the Veto question.
