An extraordinary scene was witnessed in St. George's , Cathedral yesterday. A dynamite cartridge was thrown through the door and exploded. The Standard states that France has granted the Eussian fleet permanent shelter and facilities for coaling and carrying out repairs in the Mediterranean, thus setting aside the Treaty of Paris, but will nevertheless insist on the Dardanelles being closed against the Roumanian ironclads in course of construction at Hamburg. . Mr Dillon states that it would be equivalent to an outrage if the funds in the hands of Paris bankers were redistributed at the present moment, and no doubt it would please the enemies of Ireland to see them thus dealt with. The Admiralty consider the Bonaventure type of vessel superior in' guns, steam power and handiness to any of the ships now- on the Australian station ; but they are willing to recommission the Orlando, send a vessel of the same class, or commission the Astrrea. Independent opinion confirms the suitability of the last. Six thousand miners have resumed work at the smaller pits in England at the old wages, but the larger colleries still remain closed. , A hundred thousand Welsh miners have received an additional one and a quarter per cent advance.
