Notes and Events.
Some of the members of the House of Representatives discussed Colonel Fox's report the other night amongst whom was plain Mr Willis, M.H.R. who held that Colonel Fox should have been move lenient. Mr Willis when not attending Parliament, commands, or at any rate when Colonel Fox in&pecfed the company last September, commanded the Albert Rifles, as Captain. Colonel Fox had not a high opinion of the company having very bluntly stated unless this corps was in a different state next time he inspected there would be no advantage gained in allowing it to exist ! Colonel Fox was not imported to say polite, but truthful things, and when he does so, he is told he ought to have been more lenient. About Captain Willis, M.H.R., he reports, " I found this officer not efficient as regards his drill, and, judging from the state of the company, I consider that he is not a good commanding officer !" As regards drill ho further remarks " The men who were on parade were well turned out. Cap tain Willis told me that he had not told off the company, and I found that he had not taken the trouble to see that his guides and markers were told off. He was quite unable to drill the company correctly, hut seemed to be under the impression that mere commands were all that was required of him, the knowledge of whether the commands were rightly or wrongly obeyed being quite unimportant matters.*'
