Lawn Tennis Club.
A special general meeting of the above Club was held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. There were twenty-two members present, and Mr Steele was voted to the chair.
Thfl question of laying down a new eonrfc was the first business, and after letters from Mr F. W. Cooke, manager 8.N.Z., Motucka, Mr ] Hmderdale, manager Palmerston Gasworks, and Mr Dawson, Hon. Sec. Palmerston N. L.T Club had been read, it was almost unanimously considered that at present funds would not. permit of other than a clay court being laid down, and carried on the motion of Mr McMillan seconded by Mr Nixon.
Proposed by Mr Cowles, seconded by Mr Aitkens, That Mrs McMillan's offer to renew the lease for a period of two years after the expiration of the present lease in June, 1805, be accepted . — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Rhodes, seconded by Mr Aitkena, That Rule 2, limiting the Club membership to forty, b- 1 expunged. — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Cowles, seconded by Mr Rhodes, That vacancies occurring on the committee during the year be filled up at a general meeting of members. — Carried.
The following new rule was proposed Mr Cowles, seconded by Mr McMillan, " That all subscriptions and fees must be paid in advance, though two months grace from Ist August may be allowed for special reasons. Where the period of grace be exceeded a fine of two shillings shall be paid for each month in excess." —
Carried.
Proposed by Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr Rhodes, That the word member be struck oufc in rule referring disputes to the decision of member or members of the committee present on the Club grounds — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Cowles, seconded by Mrs Stewart, " That on Tuesday afternoons the gentlemen have the sole use ef the Club's grounds." — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Cowles, seconded by Mr Morse, •• A hearty vote of thanks to committee for the trouble taken in revising the rules." — Carried.
Proposed by Mr Curtis, seconded by Mr Morse, " That a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for their kindness in providing tea on Club afternoons throughout last year be recorded."- Carried.
A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
