The Victoria Disaster.
Captain G. Noel, of the Temeraire said Admiral Tryon's manoeuvres were frequently obscure, but never dangerous He thought the Caniperdown and the Victoria ought to have used the assistance of their screws when it was seen that a collision was likely to happen. Captain Noel said he signalled to the Victoria to repeat the signal, believing the evolution ordered was impossible. He hoped to the last that Admiral Markham would disobey the order. Most of the other capteins in the fleet concurred that the manoeuvre would be dangerous unless the Victoria intended to circle outside the Cainpardown. The captain of the Phaeton said Admiral Tryon had made a similar mistake before.
