Clause 27 of the Home Rule Bill, maintaining the present status of Judges and Civil servants in Ireland, has been carried. Mr Morley, < hief Secretary for Ireland, explained that it was intended, as a measure of protection to the Civil Servants. At the end of five years the Irish Go vern men t would obtain the control of the whole service. The Hon A. J. Balfour moved an amendment to the clause under discussion in the Home Rule Bill, that no Civil servant in Ireland should be dismissed until he had been offered an equivalent position in England or Scotland. The amendment was rejected by a majority of 42. The Home Rule Bill will be reported from Committee on 7th August, and a' fortnight will be allowed for the debate on the report and the third reading stages. The Daily Chronicle says it is expected that 50 Radicals will vote against debarring the Irish Legislature from dealing with the land for the next three years. In the House of Commons on Wednesday, in Committee on the Home Rule Bill, clauses 28 and 29, dealing with Judges and Civil servants, were passed without a division. A cab in which the Prince of Wales was riding through St James' Park, collided with another vehicle. The Prince received a severe shaking. The London County County Council has withdrawn the fair wage clause in all its contracts.
