Good News for FlaxmiJlers.

Mr Gardner, accompanied by Mr 3 Symons, waited upon the Wellington Harbour Board on Thursday afternoon re reducing charges on storing and dumping flax. After a good discussion the Board went into committee to consider the request, and, on resuming the commitee recommended that the secretary should bs instructed to prepare a by. law reducing the charge fordumping from Is 8d to Is 6d a bale ; that .the charge for storage should be a uniform charge of 2d per bale per week, instead of at present 3d per bale/per week for the first two weeks,' and that flax arriving after noon on, any day should have two nights' free storage, and that the charge for examining and repacking flax should be reduced from 2s tp Is 9 per. bale. The secretary estimated that these reductions would be equivalent to about £525 per annum, as for the year ending June 80th. The recommendations of the committee were adopted. ; , '■; We congratulate Mr Gardner and the millers on the concession gained. It is not only their haying secured an immediate advantage that the result is so satisfactory, but it affords a happy illustration as to what further benefits can be obtained by a firm and united effort. The interview strengthens the position of the Association most materially.
