The Manawatu Railway Company.
In the House on Tuesday afternoon Mr Wilson asked the Government whether they could place a sum of money on the estimates to enable tk I the Commissioners of Railways ' to subsidise the Manawatu- Railway Company, so that the Company may be able to run a train solely few passengers, so as to give the travelling public between Wellington, Palmerston, Wanganui, Auckland, and Napier a more convenient and faster 'service. The Hon Mr Seddon said he did not think it would be politic for the Government to subsidise any private lin«. The Ministry did not see their way, under the present circum* stances, to grant the request. In putting the question, MrWilson said the Manawatu Company had prepared an estimate of the cost of runing a passenger .train, and they woud be prepared to accept half of that sum. ?
