The Queen's Champion.
In June, there died at Scrivelsby Court, near Horncastle, England, Mr Francis Seaman Dymoke, .J.P., the Queen's Champion. He is succeeded by his only son, Mr F. S. Dymoke. The King or Queen's Champion of England is a very honourable and ancient office, and has since 1377 been attached to the Manor of Scrivelsby, held by the Marmion family. Their descendant, MiFrancis Seamen Dymoke, who has just died was the twentieth of his I family who has held the office, The duty of the Champion is stated to be as follows :— The Champion armed cap ayrie, and mounted on horse back, enters Westminster Hall during the coronation banquet, and proclaims by a herald " that if aay one shall, deny the Queen's title to the crown, he is there ready to des fend it in single combat," after which the Queen drinks to him, and then se'rids the cup to the. Champion, who drinks, and then carries off the cup as his fee. . i
