Tuesday, llth July. I The Judge's notes of the evidence in the Cadman-Rees libel action was laid on fche table. Mr Cadman moved that the papers should be printed. He challenged Mr Rees to join with him in resigning his seat in the House, and he would contest either the Auckland or Thames seat with him. Mr Rees retorted that he would be most happy to resign and contest the City of Auckland seat wifch the hon. member. Mr Cad man thereupon read a form of resignment which he had ssignerd r and before he handed it to the ClfeSlr* of the House asked Mr Rees to sign it too. . , Mr Rees had the document brought to him, and wrote his signature. m The document was then handed to_ T the Clerk. ■' ■•i'-.'?v.r, ■-. After a long debate, during which many leading members regrettedf such a foolish step being taken, theSpeaker received fche resignations from the Clerk and a motion was carried requesting him to issue iiew : • writs.
