The Floods.
The heavy rain has caused floods all over the Wellington Province. On Wednesday\at Watt's corner, in Mar ton, the water was a foot deep, At Bulls, the Tutaenui was in high flood and rushed down the road, and, flooding the * streets, did damage to Messrs Bead and Greathead's shops to the extent of £100. The cellar at the Criterion Hotel was filled, and opposite the Courthouse the water broke the side of the road into the main sewer making a hole twelve feet wide by ten feet deep. The same night a great part of Feilding was flooded. Some approaches to bridges and bridges themselves have been damaged. The Mangaone is flooding the land and farmers were busy saving their stock. On Wednesday night the Manawatu Biver began rising but there was nothing to lead one, from its appearance, to expect a large flood, but ot course the telegrams from the Gorge gave holders of low land good notice. On Thursday the manager of the Motoa Estate, with all hands, were engaged in mustering the swamp. It was reported on Thursday night that the river was over the banks at Atiki, that the Oroua was level with the railway and doubt was expressed whether communication could be kept open. has been washed away. The river on Thursday night was within eight inches of the bank at Mr Gardner's, and was running through the Messrs Dudson's mill a little lower down she river. The road between >^- Symons' corner and Wirokino waS^^ under water. Yesterday morning the coach did not run as Mr R. Stan* sell knew it would be impossible to get the coach, through. At Motoa this morning the -river was running over the banks fnto the swamp pretty swiftly. The Motoa I swamp between the; Bed house and Mr Gardner's is one sea of water, the fences by the Kari Kari drain being out of sight. All the paddook3 by Wirikino are under water. We have heard of no losses yet, but up to the time our going to press the water was increasing in the swamp. I Latest advices from the Gorge states that the river is gradually falling there. ,
