The Macleay River.
A BfiOBT time ago the' movements of this river 1 were reported' as being in flood, and now the story reaches us that the river has got so silted up that it is expected to take twelve months to make the river navigable. The Macleay river is in New South Wale?, .qvqr, ;200. mUes north,, .of S/dney. ' It' has its origin in^ the Avernon and Sandon districts .being fed by the river's rising in the snow ranges, Blue mountains, Moonbi ranges, &c , and empties itself after many rough tumbles in Trial Bay. These ranges are well-known to sight-seffsf as^the; WutarieWwV haVe niameg form,, rushing down the. mountain sides, the Danger, Wallamumbi, and* other lesser cataracts. The last named cataract is said to be of peculiar beauty. In the Picture esque Atlas two very fine engravings of the Banger-' and Wai amumbi Falls are <to be seen. The township of the Macleay Valley is Kempse'y with about 1500 inhabitants. The people are said to build great hopes on the Government expenditure on the great b.uqakwater , a^t. Trial Bay, where tile chief labour prison of the colony Vsffiuated, and then on the fine harbour of refuge whioh will be created when the brealjwater -.is finished. , ; to find the river jSraotiealiy closed.
