Fighting in Dahomey has been resumed. It is reported that the French troops have been obliged to retire after a six hours' engagement. There is ranch financial uneasiness in the United States. There has been a run on eleven banks in Chicago, the effect being to draw supplies of gold westward. The Grant firm of , locomotive manufacturers has failed. The Vienna correspondent of the Times says that after CountKalnoky's speech the Balkan States need not expect help from the Great Powers in case (f war until they are com pletely pacified internally.
