Manawatu County Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the County Office, Sanson, yesterday at 11 a.m. Present— The Chairman (V. C. Ransom), Crs Taylor, Robinson, T. Wilson, Hammond and Masters. He had worked all the holidays and many nights till seven o'olook before the last dray was crossed, but as the weather was fine he gave all the help he oould. F. Rink, asking to extend the time of his contract. J. B. Merrett, asking for extension of time for his contract, 14 day 3. J. G. Wilson, asking for leave of absence from the meeting. Palmerston Hospital Board enclosing cheque for £11 4s in payment for claim for Young's family. John Anderson stating when he took metalling contract at Shannon ferry he understood that the ferry would be free. He had received an account from the ferryman for £8 14s 6d which he asked to bo paid. John Mathers asking for an extension of six days to complete his his contract. A. Hay asking that Thomas Masters' name be placed on rate-roll in place of his for section No. 2 Rangitikei-Manawatu Block. The Treasurer reported the credit balance of the County to be £811 8a 7d. The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That J. G. Wilson be granted leave for this meeting. Or T. Wilson urged a bonus be paid to Mr Hillary for carting metal across the Shannon ferry. He had 'attended to the duty very well. The Chairman also said Mr Hillary had expedited the work very satisfactorily. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That Cr Wilson be empowered to arrange with Mr Hillary, ferryman, Shannon ferry, as to payments of ferrying gravel for Shannon road. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Robinson, That extension oi a fortnight be given to J. B. Merrett to finish his contract on McDonel's line. And also the same time be allowed to John Mathers for his contract on Foxton road. And that F. Rink be allowed one month to finish his contract on Cemetery line. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the Chairman and Mr Cox examine vouchers of the Aorangi bridge. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That Mr Stewart's account for surveying Kari Kari road be passed on to Mr Hankins, he having employed Mr Stewart to dc the work. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, se^ conded by Cr Masters, That this Council do close temporarily the head of Spring street, Foxton foi planting the same. Wilson, seconded by Cr Ransom, That the County Overseer be instructed to see » Messrs Austin and Carter as to™ planting sand drift at Foxton and to make arrangements in conjunction with the councillor of the Awahou- ' Riding in connection therewith. There was only one tender, that of J. Cotterell & Co., for the formation on Main-drain road. The total of the tender came to £10 4s 10d. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the tender of Cotterell & Co be accepted for 30 chains, drains and formation on big drain road. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the report of , the committee for opening tenders on April 26th be adopted. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Or Robinson, That all rates not paid by the 81st May be sued for without further notice.
