London. Rioting took place in Trafalgar square on Saturday. An organised body of 3000 teetotallers broke up a meeting in opposition to the Local Control Bill, and destroyed the banners. Several persons were injured in the melee, and ten rioters have been arrested. Spencer Balfour, ex-M.P.. is in Buenos Ayres, and Mr George Howell, member for Bethnal Green, is asking the authorities to expedite his capture. Tallow — Medium muttou, 30s 6d ; beef, 28s. Total quantity of wool catalogued up to date is 54,800 bales. There is a brisk demand, and prices remain firm. Continental buyers are especially active. Medium wools are very strong, English representatives buying freely. New South Wales consignments are bringing 9£d to Is 7kl, according to class. Merinos and crossbreds arc! Jd to Acl above last quotations. The English wheat market is firmer, the Continental dull, and the American has an upward tendency. Frost spoiled 40 cases of the Aorangi's apples, and worms dam aged a number of others. Mr Balfour addressed a meeting of 5000 Unionists in the Leinster Hall, Dublin, and was received with immense enthusiasm. Reinforcements of police are to be | sent to Belfast. Mr Balfour, speaking at Dublin, said Ulster as a last resort, could fight the South, which would be helpless. The Rev. Thomas Spurgeon has accepted the pastorate of the Tabernacle, formerly held by his father, the late Rev. C. H. Spurgeon. Lord Honghton, Viceroy of Ireland has issued a proclamation restricting the importation of arms into the country. The issue of Lord Honghton's proclamation is due to numerous seizures of arms which have been made recently from passengers from America. The Government has ordered the authorities in Ireland to make a close scrutiny of all munitions of war imported into the country, and insist on the consignees making a full declaration. The return of the Opposition leaders to the House after a vigorous campaign in the provinces, has revived interest in the debate on the motion for the second reading of the Home Rule Bill.. The debate was resumed by Mr Chamberlain, who delivered a brilliant and incisive speech. The supporters of Local Option claim a victory at the meeting held in Trafalgar square, and declare that they held possession from first to last. The meeting approved the Bill, and thanked the Government for introducing it. Cheers were given for Sir Veruon Harcourt and Sir Wilfrid Lawson. The opponents of the Bill have i received a temporary check.
