Wanganui Education Board.

A deputation from the Norinanby School Committee waited on Mr Hutchison, M.H;R., on Wednesday evening with reference to the action oi the Board of Education in relation to Mrs Meredith. The deputation pointed out that though the Board had professed to " consult "^ the committee, it had taken no notice of its representations. The Board gave as a reason for complaint that discipline was not good, but the, head master was by the Board's own regulations responsible for discipline ; and as to percentage of passes Mrs Meredith's, was better than those of any other teacher in the school. The Committee felt that the real reason for the Boafd'S action had not been disclosed, for a. member of the Board had 1 told a member of the •- Committee that whatever they did or said it would not influence the Board. The consulting was, therefore a farce, and the action of the Board was contrary to the wishes, not only of the Committee but of the parents of children attending: the school. ; The deputation wished Mr Hutchison to bring the matter under the notice- of the: Minister of Education. ; Mr Hutchison said he would be very glad to do so, but he feared the reply would be that the Minister had no power in such a matter, /and could not interfere with, the JBoard. He advised the deputation that it would be better to confer with the local member of the Board, and , ask him to represent to the Board the * feelings of the Committee and 'the. people of the dißtrictr-fHawera Star. j.;v
