« Yesterday we experienced a heavy fall of rain and last evening the wind began to rise., and during the night and this morning a very severe gale.., is blowing. The glass was lower early this morning than it has been for years for southerly weather. All the wires arc more or lex 3 down,.only one being partially available to VVanganui and Napier. Th» Manawatu railway line has been blocked by slips and the midday Wellington mail is not likely to reach Foxton till eight o'clock to* night, if then.
