A Farewell Social.
»-... | A very successful tea and public meeting was held last evening in connection with the Primitive Methodist Connexion, on the oc casion of the departure ot the Pastor, Mr Baine, who has had such a successful term on this station, ex tending over 2 years. The tea meeting was held in the Town Hall, tea being on the table at 6 p.m., when about 150 persons sat down and enjoyed the good things provided by Mr H. P. Forster, caterer. The public meeting was held in the Chapel at 7.80, when about the same number assembled to bid our pastor God speed. Mr E. Westwood was voted to the chair, and made a few remarks suitable to the occasion. The first speaker was Mr T. F. Gibs-.n, the Station Steward, who read the following resolution to the meeting " That the best thanks of the meeting be given to Brother Rev. Baine for his untiring zeal, energy, perseverance, and attention to his many duties and also for the very satisfactory manner in which he has conducted the general working of the Foxton station as a whole, and pray that God's richest blessings may follow him, and remain with him in his new sphere of labour, and that his m >tto may still be " The World f.>r Christ." Messrs Howan, E. Osborne, T Westwood and G. Simpson also spoke, and endorsed the expressions [ of the resolution. The pastor, Mr Baine, then came forward and bade fare /veil, and spoke of the happy term he had spent in this district, and declaring that he had f >und the Foxton people, the most sociable and generous of any in his short travels. This very successful meeting was closed about 10 o'clock with prayers by Mr Baine. The choir rendered good assistance and interspersed the speeches with- songs from " Hos Banna " Miss Newth presiding at the organ.
