Floods in Queensland.
Up to the present 424 families, representing 200 J persons, ! have been relieved. .The fund has reached £6000. It is estimated that 10,000 persons w ill require relief, absorbing at least £25,000. , The Queen has cabled a message of sympathy to th j sufferers by ; the floods and has requested to be supplied with fuller details. Heavy floods are being experienced in Toowoomba. The streets are flooded and many of the shops inundated. : r r '?.'.\ 'I

Hon Mr Reeves has forwarded x f^jg copies of the following telegram to all Chambers of Commerce and Mayors of towns ia the Colony : — 'Telegram has j ist been received from Premier of Queensland , stating that owing to -ivcent floods great destitution prevail *, and much help will be required. In the event of your receiving contributions Government will arrang3 those given in goods will be carried free by rail to nearest port, and will also settle for freights to Brisbane, Money .contributions may he sent to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington. - (signed) — W.
