; o. The Council met at Sans in at 11.30 yesterday morning. Present Crs Ransom (chairman) Robinson, T. Wilson, J. G. Wilson, Masters, and Taylor. Cr Hammond took his seat after the dinner adjournment". The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence received w;s read as follows : — From Strang Bros., Moutoa, asking for permission to fence off a portion of Crown waste land at Moutoa, fronting the river. J The Council decided they had no jurisdiction in this matter. Manchester Road Board, sending certificate re Awahuri Bridge works. Sealbrth McKenzie, contractor, asking for an extension of time of 8 or 4 weeks in which to complete his contract of the Campbelltown Longburn bridge, and complaining that through the Christmas holidays and slips in the Gorge he had not been able to procure the necessary timber. Rangitikei County Council, drawing attention to the bad approaches 1 to Scott's Ferry. H. Pickering, Feilding, enclosing £1 16s for a slaughtering license. Herd man and Arnold, Campbelltown, for a renewal of slaughtering license, and enclosing cheque. Jehns Yanko, asking that William Salisbury's name be placed on the rate-roll for section 375, township of Campbelltown. John Anderson, contractor, asking for an extension of time in which to complete his contract of metalling on the Shannon-Foxton road. Charles B. Lumsden, wishing Amon Bros' name substituted for his on rate-roll for section 70, Douglas Block. Land and Income Tax Department, in reply to Council regarding the subsidy due. Charles Bray, engineer, reporting on tramway. Engineer's Department., Wanganni, re gravel required for road purposes. * Manchester Road Board, informing the Council that the contract for the erection of the Aorangi bridge will be completed by the end of February, when it will be necessary for the Council to provide their share of the cost. G. L. R. Scott, engineer to the Manawatu Rood Board, certifying that the various materials charged for in the account rendered for re» pairs, etc., to the Awahuri bridge were, duly supplied to and used in connection with the Awahuri bridge works. Peter Stewart, notifying that he would not be responsible for Native rates after date, as his lease expires in March next. Commercial Union Assurance j Company re insurance on County offices. The usual notices under the " Factories Act " were received from G led hill and Co., Percy C. Collins, H. Coley, and Thompson and Co. The County treasurer's report also the engineer's report on the tramway was read. The following tenders were received : — For metalling on Speedy's Line near Sanson (40 chains) :-*C. J. Cameron, 24s 6d per chain ; J Stratton and Fagan, 29a 6d ; Jas. Henderson, 29s 6d ; Younger and Laing, 81s ; F. L. Behrent, 34s ; G. W. Smith, 32s Gd. For metalling on Cemetery Line near Sanson (50 chains) ;— Younger and Lain?, 29s per chain ; F. L. Behrent, £1 15s ; G. W. Smith, £2 12s. For collecting dog-tax :-J. Thompson, lOid per dog ; G. Wright, Is per dog"; A. W. Tomlinson, £i 7 10s per annum. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr J- G. Wilson, That the applications of H. Pickering, Feilding, and Herdman and Arnold, of Campbelltown for slaughtering licenses be granted. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr T. Wilson, That the application of Charles B. Lumsden to have Amon Bros, name inserted on the rate roll for section 70, Douglas Block, in lieu of his, and that of William Salisbury, in lieu of Jehns Yanko, for section 875, Campbelltown, be granted. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That Seaforth McKenzie be granted three weeks extension of time from Bfch March next for completing the- Longburn-Camp-belltown bridge. — '"arried. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That Mr Anderson be granted an extension of time to May Ist 1893, for completing metalling contracts on the Shan-non-Foxton road. — Carried. Proposed by Cr T. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That a oulvert be placed across the Foxton. Shannon road, opposite outfall drain brought up through Motoa Estate. — Carried • Proposed by Cr J. G. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the overseer be instructed to widen (by putting in a new stringer) the bridge on the main road at Awahuri, near the blacksmith's shop, and to redeck this bridge, and the one nearer the schoolhouse — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Or Hammond, That Mr A. W. Toinlinson's offer of £17 10s for right of collecting dog-tax be accepted. — Carried. I Proposed by Or T. Wilson, seconded by • r Masters, That the overseer, in conjunction with the Councillor for the Awahou Riding, be instructed to have the ibl owing work arranged for on the road through the Motoa Estate, now in process of transfer to the Council as soon as the transfer is completed, viz, (1) D>cking of bridges over Walden's and Williamson's drains on the Kari-road, say 700 feet of totara, 12 feet x 2in thick. 4.2) Trimming 100 chains along Cartel's drain and down KariKari road, and laying 1000 yards of sand on said road. Tenders to be called for No. 2.— Carried. Proposed by Cr J. G. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That Messrs 1 Younger and Laing's tender be • accepted for the Cemetery Line at £1 9s per chain, and that 0. G. Cameron's tender be accepted for Speedy's Line at 24s 6d per chain. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Robinson, That the amount of £55 7s 6d charged against the Waitohi separate rates for compensation paid D. Fraser for land taken at Awahuri bo refunded, and the amount charged to the General County Fund. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Robinson, 3 hat tenders be called for metalling 78 chains on Speedy's read,., at the south end. Trnders to be in by noon at next meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by (V Hnmmond, That tenders be invited for the supply and delivery of 125 yards of metal on Freckling ton's Line, between the Makowai Bridge and Taylor's line. Tenders to bf> in in time for next meeting of Council-— Carried. Proposed by Cr Rtinsom, -seconded by Cr Taylor, That tenders be called tor re-forming part of Jones' Line and claying part cf Sahson's road. Tenders to be in by next meeting of the Council.— Carried. Prop sed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That A W. Tomlinson be appointed .log- tax collector for 1893, for the Munawatu County, and that the County Office at Saivson be the registered office. — Carried. The Council went into committee in regard to letters received from J. Wright Stewart, ami it was resolved that the Clerk writo and ask him to meet the Council at next sitting. Messrs E. Austm and F. < arter waited on the < ouncil in regard to a road on the upper portion of Springstreet, which they wished to have closed, as the sand drifts from tha road were damaging to their adjoin* ing properties. Mr Austin said if the Council were agreeable to their b>ing closed they would plant the road with shrnbs, which would be the means of stop* ping the sand blowing -on to their properties. : ' .. - It was decided to leave the matter over in thy meantime, as the Council was of opinion the Foxton -Borough Council should be consulted in the matter. ■•;.. Mr R. Walden made a personal application to the Council asking for a lease of a piece of Government waste land on which his mill is situated at Moutoa. He understood' other parties were desirous of fencing the land in, and it simply meant- if he was not able to get it, -he would have to close the mill. He had offered in September, through Mr Mitchell, the then member/ for the Awahou Riding, to pay a rental of £5 a year for the site. The Council decided they could not deal with the question, as they had no jurisdiction in the matter.'' V- v
