Wirokino Road Board.

The monthly meeting of the Wirokino Road Board was held at Levin on Saturday, 21st January. Present — Messrs Davies (Chairman), Gower, Kebbell, Miller and Wallace. The following letters were read : — From Treasury, saying that £2000 further loan on Tokomaru Valley sections is now available. From Land Tax Department, realtering value of Town Reserve, Heatherlea, Block 13. From J. Prouse, asking permission to cut grass seed on Horowhenua East Road. M. Posella, re proposed deviation of road between Kereru station and Main County road. District Survey Office, stating that plan of road through Oturoa Block has boon approved. Sir W. Buller and Mr Stuckey, re native rates on Horowhenua Block sections. Colonial Secretary, acknowledging notices for gazetting. Petition of ratepayers- of northern end of district, re division of district into ward=s. The following resolutions were passed : — That Mr Scott be instructed to prepare plans for roads in Horowhenua Block, with cost of survey for same, to be in by next meeting pi the Board. That public notice be given of intention to strike a special rate of 11-7ths of a penny in the £ on rateable values of sections 815, 816, 317 and 818, Block 111, Arawa, to pay interest, etc , on Kahuterawa Valley Road Loan. That resolution re making special district of township of Shannon for £500 loan to make Ferry Road be now confirmed. That Engineer prepare plans and specifications for continuation of Tokomaru Valley Road as bridle track 6 feet wide. That the Chairman be requested to reply to Sir Walter Buller and Mr Stuckey's letters re past expenditure of Native rates, and to nform Mr Stuckey that the Board's Engineei is arranging a scheme of roads to give access to each block if possible. That in reply to the petition of certain ratepayers of Shannon against the proposed roads this Board in the proposed subdivision has not altered the boundary running along to the north of Ihakara's reserve, which is the north boundary of the proposed No 8 Ward, and if the ratepayers north of that line wish three wards the Board is willing to grant them. It would also point out that the proposed subdivisions have not been adopted, and can be altered to suit the wishes of ratepayers. •That tenders be called for constructing Muhunoa west road about 80 chains, in consideration of Messrs W. Turnbull and Kebbell subscribing the sum of £30 as promised. That extension of time (three weeks) be granted P. Richards for ' the Kereru road work. ! That necessary steps he taken to'

obtain title to load throvigh Oturoa Block under Public Works Act, ac cording to approved plan. That, in terms of Land Tax Department's letter, valuation of Town Eeserve, Heatherlea, be reduced to £481. That this Board agrees with Mr T. J; Row for supplying and carting 150 yards of metal on Tokoniaru Road Son th, to bespread by Board's dayman, and passed by ganger. That engineer call tenders for Buckley Road Contract No 2, and for claying Buckley Eoad. That the engineer visit Muhunoa East Road, and report on deviation suggested by ratepayers, and also on proposed deviation between Kereru and Main County Road. That public notice be given of intention to strike special rate of 9-16ths of a penny in ther-JB'.' on sections already published adjoining Shannon East Road, to pay interest on £500 loan. That alterations on rate roll be made as per list dated this day, and signed by the chairman. The following tenders were reI ceived for road works ; — ! Buckley Eoad - Young (accepted), ! J8415 ; Twomey, £614 14s; Me Williams, £479 ; P. Richards, £480; T. O'Leary, £470; J. T. Wells, £550. Karaka-street — Matson (accepted), £24 ; Row, £29 10s ; Lukin, £30 ; Langster, £26 6s ; Wells, £36 10s. — M. limes.
