Foxton Racing Club.

It seems superfluous to remind our readers of the Summer Meeting of tha Foxton Eacing Club on Monday next, bnt some people are so curious and having had it in years past drilled into them that the Club's meeting is always held on Anniversary Day, the 22nd January, they may think that as the 22nd falls on a Sunday this year, they should make a start for the coime that day or not go at all, We therefore pen these few line=i to save them "much disappointment and to state that the races will be held on Monday, which, as the colonists are much too wise to I miss any public holiday, is the day . fixed on as Anniversary Day for all intents and purposes, viz., a holiday. Having put this little point right, : we may further mention that those

who go to the racecourse will have. . good reason to bo satisfied, as theiC honorary secretary, Mr J . R. McMillan, and all the officials of the Club have done all they can to provide a good day's sport. The fields > are bound to be large and to those who like to drop their money on the totalisator for the benefit "of their country, will niosfc probably be thoroughly satisfied by doing so, as the winner will be hard to choose. On the other hand the lucky speculator may make a haul, as dividends are likely to prove big. We may publish a forecast, that depends on the sanguine nature of our sporting contributor, the tips, if they appear, may be excellent, just as valuable as every other good thing one gets put up to on a course, but we rather > hold to the plan adopted by a friend who invariably backs the longest necked horse in each race, the legs do not worry him, but, if he has a long neck and is on equal terms with another horse he is bound to be in Jby a head first. That is his idea and seems as good as any other way of spotting a winner to one who is invariable a loser. The special train from Danevirke and Woodville should tend to swell the crowd, and given a fine day, which the Club is generally favoured with, it is on the course where every* body will meet everybody and pass a good time. The Foxton Brass Band has been engaged and they have a capital programme to go through. Messrs Hill & Poole "run" the totalizator. Mr Smith, from Feilding, ha 3 the Grand Stand publican's booth, and Mr Bordor the outside publican's booth. Mr B Spelman has secured the horse paddock. The Club look forward to a large attendance as it shows their efforts are | appreciated. The races are not run to make money, as all over expenses lis regularly laid out in improving i the course. The capital plantations now growing up, excellent for shade for pleasant picnic parties, proves this, A general invitation is issued to one and all to roll up. (Tips by St. Hippo.)
