■■■■ » "We have received from Walter London publishing offices an advance copy of Phil May's "* "Winter Annual. Holtke. A story of a gamble at Monaco* entitled " My wilful wife" by. F. C. Philips is to the point. " jdrje add Joliu " a darkey's courtship is lightly Written; " The Bull Punchers " is a strong story of a dark deed done whilst training cattle in the Far West, anil is written by Morley Roberta. George A. Sala redoubts something now about Charles Dickem. A G'oiiau Doyle has a short interesting piece called " Jelland's voyage." Phil Robinson tells an impossible Kangaroo story. " When the music stopped " is the titlfc of a quiet but rather a weird story by F. Gribblo. The full page pictures are capital, such as tt larriken noticing a big London policeman leading a little child by the hand wants to know " What's J e done, governor?" A lion tamer who has returned home intoxicated is showii ifl the den with his lions, the old woman gazing in afld crying " You coward." The landlord meets his farm servant and the following conversation is given " What, drunk again, Mick?" "Well, I've just had a toothful, yer honour." " I think we shall have to get that tooth stopped." There are many other capital sketches, and the book is worth all the money asked for it, one shilling, did it only contain the sketches, and the reading matter is worth the money by itself too, so that it can be reckoned cheap to get both for a shillings
