Fire.

On Wednesday morning the old building, once the store and post office of Mr T. U. Cook, but for some time used as a wash-house in connection with the Foxton Family hotel, was burnt, down. It appears that early in the morning the maids made a fire in the room to prepare for a days washing, and left to attend to other matters whilst the water was boring. On the arrival of a small person with the milk, she reraarkpd to Mr Border that there appeared to be a lot of smoke in the building. He immediately hastened out and found the place in fire and beyond saving, and with the assistance of many hands devoted his attention to saving the stables which are close alongside. This was accomplished, and in an hour and a half the chimney was. the only portion of the old building laft. It is fortunate no further losa occurred as a very strong, breeze was blowing.
