Artesian Water Supply.

We have received a note from Mr J. G. Wilson referring to our last article on Artesian Water Siipptyi and however tinsatisfactpry his view is, in. so far as td any reliance to be placed* on securing a flow at any particular spot, we fear he is but too correct. Mr Wilson thinks we did not note the heighth above sea level, but though not making it clear perhaps in our article, we believe it would be cleaf to all who knew the sections mentioned. Wt should say that Mr Smith' 3 land is not more than twenty feet above sea level, and Mr Thy nne's land should be the same, or even say five or six teefc higher. The water at Mr Smith's well, the nearest to the source of the artesian supply, is highest by a long way of any other well we mentioned* and the greater the dip in the shinglo stiata towards the sea, the higher tho water rises proportionately, but 1 not anywhere near the height tf Mr Smith's. Mr Wilson fancies this supply is a bed of saturated gravel which contains water, and the reason why the flow is not so great at some places as at others is that there is a flaw in the thickuess of gmvel (sketched as though two wi.ie bottles were laying on their sides month touching mouth) and that the -water probably cannot get through this flaw (narrow part) at same rate, and that ib turns in direction where it goes more easily, or perhaps, the impervious strata above is pierced somewhere and there is an escape.
