CHRISTMAS DAY.
The word is derived from the old Saxon mcem signifying the mass and a feast. It is a festival in commemoration of the nativity of < Jhrist, and is said to have beeh first kept in 98. It was ordered to be held as a solemn feast ly Pope Ttlesphorus about 137. In the eastern church Christ mas is kept on the 6ih January, and the Armenians celebrate it and the Epiphany on the 18th January. # * #
