We understand that the Govern itipnt yesterday, (Thursday), in Gib-net, decided to accept the offer of th.) owners of the Cheviot estate. Tiey will therefore take the property by purchasA under the provisions of the Land and Income Tax Act. The matter aro39 in this way : There was a difference of opinion about the value between the owners and the Land Tax Depart - rant. The Government assessor's value was upheld by the Board of He viewers. In consequence the owners off -red the G werniu >nft tha property at their (the owners') valuation. Tnis occurred some time ago. The Government thereupon got two s pa rate valuations made by indspqnd nt » a'uers. The result is yesterday's Cabinet decision to take the property at the offer made by the
owners. All that remains is for bjth parties 1 to come to the necessary agreements as to the preliminaries about possession, payment of the money, and so forth This is th first instance of the kind that has occurred in the Colony.
