A Painful Case.
The following paragraph is explanatory of a recent cable message ; — Gwynth Maud, a pretty girl of 18, was arraigned in a London Police Court, on November 10th, charged with stealing silver salvers and candelabra from Spink and Son, jewellers. The girl was dressed in the height of fashion, and was lady-like in appearance and address. She resides with her mother in a honse at Hyde Park Gate. They are widely related to aristocratic families, and Gwyneth's finest j caused a decided sensation. The > Spinks say that after selecting the salvers and candelabra she ordered , crests to be engraved upon them.! The order was fulfilled, and then by j direction of the firm the articles j were sent to her residence. They i •were not paid for. As soon as j Gwyneth received the plate, she i pawned it. This i« not the only [ charge against the girl. The re- ; presentative of a fur company was J in Court and made a charge against j her of obtaining a sealskin mantle, '. jacket, and muff, without paying for j them. She obtained in this manner ; over £500. When she was arrested, ! she said, '• It's my mother's fa-jit." | The magistrate remanded her, refusing to accept bail. The mother has since committed suicide.
