Cricket.

A friendly game of cricket was played yesterday < n the Foxton School ground between teams representing the Carnarvon and Fox ton State Schools, which resulted in an easy win for the Carnarvon boy 3. The Foxton boys were outmatched from start to finish, the visiting team proving tneir superiority in all points of the game. In fairness to the local boys, however, it must be stated that the main cause of their easy defeat was want of practice. Owing to the prevalence of " grippe," and the consequent absence from school of many of the cricket team, cricket has been almost a dead letter in the playground for sometime past. In the ordinary course of things this will be remedied, and by-and-bye the Foxtonians will be able to give a better account of themselves. All the same the Carnarvon lads played a sterling good game throughout, and well merited the victory which they achieved. We are pleased to add that the game was played from beginning to end in a manly and cordial spirit that was pleasant to nofca. Appended are the scores : —
