Horowhenua County Council.

♦— The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held at the Council's , office, Ofcaki, on Saturday. Present — Ors Sinlcox in the chair), Davies, Cridland, Best, Atkins, Tompsitt and Bills. Leave of absence was granted to the Chairman, Cr Kebbell, for the meeting. Tenders were ordered to be called for trimming up, forming and nißtalling that portion of the County road from a point one chain north of the Manguone district to the gate leading into the Te Horo railway station. The Engineer was instructed to take levels and prepare estimates for the formation of the County road from Te Horo railway station to Mr J. Gillies' northern boundary. The Chairman was authorised to arrange for ratepayers' meetings at Shannon and Levin for consideration of Loan proposals on 23rd and 24th December respectively. Constables O'Rorke and Giflespie were appointed registrars of dogs for the year 1893 at the same rate of remuneration as heretofore. Tenders were ordered to be called lor the supply of dog collars for the year 1893, and a Committee, consisting of Crs Simcox, Bills and Atkins were appointed to open and deal with them. Tenders were ordered to be called for the carrying out of certain repairs to the Wirokino road. Cr Cridland reported having visited the site suggested for a cemetery at Shannon, consisting of five acres, belonging to Mr Crowthsr. The price fixed by the Council was £15 an acre, but Mr Crowther would not take less than £20 an acre, and it would require an expenditure of £200 or £300 to make a road to it. He suggested the two acres belonging to Mr Gascoigne adjoining the school be purchased at £50 an acre. — Consideration of the matter was held over till next meeting. It was decided to close the Council offices from December 24th to January 3rd, and to give the Council's employees holidays on December 26th and 27th and January 2nd.— Standard.
