Palmerston School Committee.

■ : ♦—— — From the report of tile rtieetiug pf the above donirhittee published iii the Manawatu Tiinte-. it appears that the^e is trouble in the Board ovei* the roaster question, as— The chairman said, the ineetingV , had beeid called by the request of Mr Sanson, a member of the Education Board, to consider the deadlock which at present existed between the Board and tho School Committee. Messrs Sanson and Hurley had interviewed himself and Mr Welch with reference to the matter of appointing a teacher to the Collegestreet >^chool. We did not think the committee should appoint a teacher until a deputation from the committee had waited on the board and laid their views before it. Mr Munro said the Board were quite justified in sending any names they chose for the committee to select from. lie thought the committee was taking a wrong stand in the matter He was in favor of ap* pointing a teacher at onee 1 :, ' Mr Mayo supported Mr Murird; ■ The Chairman said the Board had not acted -right towards the Committee. They had kept back the ap plication of Mr ft. AY. Low, the teacher in charge of Fordell school, though he held a Dl "certificate, and Mr Sanson had assured him that the Inspector reported that he was a most suitable candidate for the position of head master of the Collegestreet school. On .-the . strength of ' the Inspector's report, and Mr Low's certificate, which was superior to that of Mr Grant, Mr Sanson had moved that his name- be scut on to the L'oinrriittee. The other members of the Board', however,. 1 seemed to wish Mr, Grant to secure _ the position, and no other meiriber"s'ecbrided Mr Bauson's motion.. He was of opinion that Mr Low's name should have been sent. The Board had evidently desired to hide the fact that a name of a candidate in. tlieir, employ, with a Dl certificate,; had i not been placed before the Committee, as some of the members of the Board had assured him that all candidates holding a certificate higher than D 2 had' been 'sent lou. - *-'< "* **, - >- " Mr Mayo naoved.that the applica- ' tions for, theheadmastership of .the College street school be now opened, Seconded by Mr Munro and carried. The applications , were five in number, and they were dealt" withi n' 1 Committee. After a long discussion it was 'de-. cided to adjourn the special meeting until' the *21st December, when a final choice of a teacher will be made. The Chairman and Mr Hansen were authorised to proceed to Wan- • ganai and interview the' Hoard with . reference to the final-appointment of a teacher for the College street school. >
