Lawn Tennis.
The tournament matches are now drawing to a close. Since our last notice the following games have been played :— Mr W. Stansell beat Mr Curtis 6 to 2, and Mr McNicol beat Mr H Gower Gto 8. This left Mr McNicol and Mr Stansell as competitors in the final evdtitj which was looked forward to with very considerable interest, as these two players were considered to be very evenly matched. The result, however, was " a boil over," for McNicol, who beat his op'potleUt with apparently great ease by 6 to 1, and thus won the first, champion, racquet played for on the Foxtori court. The ladies tomuiam6iit«isialsbVpro+. gressing, and wi 1 possibly be finished during the pre^e'ritHv'delt 1 . "t)n Thursday last Miss J. Whyte beat Miss Burr by 6to 3. "The only others now left in aieMr3>te\vavt-,4»d Miss C. Symons, and when those two have played off Miss Whyfce plays the victor ; and the conqueror in this final game wins the ladies racquet and championship for the time being. Since the foregoing was in type the remaining events in the Ladies' Tournament have been played off. Yesterday afternoon Mrs Stewart met Miss 0. Symons and won her match by 6to -4. '1 his left Miss J. Whyfce and Mrs Stewart the last competitors for the racquet, and the final contest came off later on in the evening with the result that Mrs Stewart baafc Miss Whyt-j by G to 2, and thus the tournament is ended.
