What Won't Girls Do.
A young lady residing in a boardinghouse in Phillip-street, Sydney, was the heroine of an sXditiHgf adventure a few days «go. -*Sh« managed to lock herself iafo .her room in such a manner, that.the key became fixed, and all her efforts* to opeu the door or to .remove the key were unavailing. Not a locksmith's shop was to be found open, . ahd\ as the lock was a particularly . strong one, it stoutly resisted .the Vigorous attacks which were made upon it from the outside. For a- time it seemed as though the fair inmate of the room must remain a prisoner until morning, That, however, "by no means suited "her' vie\6s,*.as a theatre engagement stood in tbe way, and she begged that a ladder might bo procured. After some delay a ladder was obtained, but the room wa9 in the third < atopy, ;and the ladder, though a very long one, fell fully five feet short iof the window sill. The landlady negatived a motion in favour of* opening the door by means of a dynamite cartridge, and the young lady was counselled to make the J best ■ of the situation. To the horror* df*. the spectators, she responded* to;- this advice by appearing on the windowsill, and, while the little crowd below stood aghast at her daring, the .plucky girlr-^-who is som^thingjpiitn athlete-flowered hWseff downMfo the first rung of the ladder, ancL_a,_i«»w— moments liter* landed safely oh terra firma, amidst loud applause- :
