Mr Stanley, in a letter to The Times, says there was nothing in the Berlin Conference to prevent any Power occupying Uganda in the event of England evaouating the country, City men have asked the Lord Mayor to convene a meeting to protest against the evaouation. Mr Keir Hardie, M P., addressing the Congregational Union at Brad, ford, oreated a painful scene by declaring that the churohes preached jonly to the respectable classes and forgot the writhings and sufferings of humanity, and men and women were being driven to hell without a helping hand. The minister- declared his statements to be false. The Scotch munioipalists are asking t*fr H. Gardner, President of the Board of Agriculture, to enforce the labelling of foreign meat, so as to prevent deceit. It is intended to form oompanies in Victoria, South Australia and New Zealand to work the Danish milking machine (Neilson's patent). Mr H. Reynolds, of New Zealand, is making a good show of that Colony's butter at the Dairy Show, at Islington. The exhibits have produced an excellent impression. The Propaganda renews the demand for compensation to the Roman Catholic missionaries in Uganda. The Church Missionary Society is appealing to the people of England to forbid the evaouation of Uganda by the British. T he Rev Tucker is now proceeding to Uganda to finally decide the course of action to be taken in the event of the evacuation. The Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of York, were represented at Lord Tennyson's funeral in Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty sent a beautiful wreath. The Jerusalem Chamber at Westminster Abbey is filled with wreaths sent in as marks ,pf respect to the late Poet Laureate. Hop picking has finished, and the yield has fallen far short of the early estimate. It is expected that the total yield will be about 415,000 cwt. The Rev Thomas Spurgeon sails for New Zeaiand in the steamer Kaikoura.
