On Friday the Petitions Committee reported on the Chemis case, and it was agreed to, that although the committee have been unable to find sufficient evidence to justify them in advising any definite action, still they are of opinion that jjhe same is .one; .which should be carefully considered, and therefore recommend the Executive to review the evidence taken by the committee.

unable to come to any agreement with the Council on the latter's amendments in the Electoral Bill, and he moved that the report be agreed to.

Mr Saunders moved as an amendment to the effect that the Bill should be not dropped, and that the amendments in the Women's Franchise clauses be agreed to. The debate ' proceeded at great length, and at 11.50 Mr Ditncan moved the adjournment of the debate, which was seconded by Me Rhodes The Leader of the Opposition denounced this action of the Government, saying that he was prepared to stonewall the Bill rather than it should be killed in>this manner.

The Acting Premier, in reply, said he believed if the debate was adjourned until to-day the Upper House would waive their, objections.

This motion also caused a discussion which lasted for some time. At 1.15 a division was taken on the motion for adjournment of the debate, when it was carried by 84 to 23.
