TAM O'SHANTER, by Messenger (itop.) — Bnnshee, by Sir Charles ; gd. imported from Tas mania by M chael Studhoime. who bred Banshee TAM O'SHANTIR is a grey hors 1 , ten years old, standing 16 hands 2 inches, possessing great bone and strength. He gained first prize at Ash bur ton, 1884, first in 1885 and 188 C, second in Chri&tchnrch in 1886, first in Christchurch 1887 and 1888, and first in Kirvvee in 1888. He took first prize at the Ellesmere A. and P. Show, 1889, in Carriage Class, and special prize for the best Carriage Horse on the ground ; fi st at Rangiora, 1889 ; second at the C. A. and P Association Show. 1889, and Earl Onslow's (Governor of New Zealand) silver medal for the best Carriage Horse on tbe ground, the prize being awarded to the horse best adapted for improving the breed of carriage horses, arid free from all hereditary unsoundness. TAM O'SHANTER has proved hims' If a very sure foal getter. MESSENGER, sire of TAM O'SHANTER, was a bay horse, standing 16 hands 2 inches high, possessing great power, and full of stout and fast blood. Archer, half brother of his sire. Bottler, was the winner of tbe Melbourne Cup in two successive years, carrying the top .veights of 98t 71b and lOst 121 b, and was one of the greatest two- mile horses evpr bred in Australia. Cinderella, dam of Bottler, was also the dam of Tim Whiffler, winner of both Metropolitan and Melbourne Cup in 1867, and numerous other great races; while Tarragon, out of Messenger's dam, was the winner of the Victorian Champion Race in 1866, after a dead heat with Volunteer -the first heat run in smin 47sec, and the second in ornin 48sec, carrying 9st 131 b.
