Park's residence in College street may be seen, says the Manawatu Time*, a beautiful specimen of what can be done by cultivation of ouv New Zealand flowers. As is well-known Mr Park is an enthusiast in the matter of cultivating New Z.mland shrubs and flowers, and he has growing there nearly all varieties. The most striking object at the present time, however is the New Zealand clematis, which has been trained up the balcony, from which hung fesioons of white flowers making a very pretty sight. Mr Park's example will doubtless be followed by many others. The will of the late Mr John McKelvie has been proved at £115,591 10s Gel, upon which probate for that sum will be paid. An application for fencing and for a new gate for the Taikorea school, was received at the last meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, and it was resolved that the gate be put up at once but the fencing be held over for the present — The question of whether this school should be erected at once or whether it should be allowed to rest for a time was then considered. — Mr Bridge moved that in view of the shortness of funds the plans and specifications be drawn up and held over for the next meeting. — Mr Sanson moved as an amendment that the plans and specifications be gone on with at once. He thought that the matter should be dealt with without delay. The residents had done their best to get a school and had signed the necessary bond, and it would be a great dleonoouvagement if tho Hoard were to delay the matter. He thought tonders should lie called at once and left with the Executive to deal with. — The amendment was put and carried, Mr Bridge dissenting. He left a letter wishing the clerk of the Council good-bye, and previously made his will j but so far no cause has been assigned, The Sydney Morning Herald, in an article on the Legislative Council dispute, thinks it more likely that the Marquis of Ripon's decision will be a death-blow to nominated Chambers than to nominated Governors.
