The Cablegram from the Colonial Office.
When the House of ' epresentatiyes met on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Speaker read a copy of the cablegram received by Lord Glasgow from the Secretary of state for the Colonies relative to the proposed appointments to the Legislative Council. It was as follows : — * I have carefully considered your despatch, and appreciate the difficulties of your position, but I have no hesitation in advising acceptance of your respon sible advisers' advice. It does not appear to be a case of swamping the Council. Division lists should be considered rather than politics. Of the Premier's originally nominating members, I will state fully reasons by despatch, but you should at once re-open matter with Ministers, and waive your objection to their proposal. Agent-General is anxious for information, which I cannot withhold after to-morrow, but I am anxious to give you opportunity of making your own announcement to the Ministers.
