The Wana tribesmen have proclaimed their goodwill to Great Britain. Mr Cleveland, in accepting nomination as the Democratic candidate for the Presidency, denies that he has any desire to exterminate protected interests, and reiterates his views in favour of a sound, honest, and abundant currency It is reported that Colonel Yanoff will be reinforced by 12,000 men in the Pamirs next spring. The French treasurer of the Uganda niisssion declares that if the British leave the country the Germans will replace them, and the result will be a massacre of Christians. It suggests that King Mwanga should be pensioned under a British protectorate. Cardinal Lavigerie is in favour of the British taking control of Uganda, if they compensate the missioners.
