Meeting at Levin.
Last week a meeting was held by '- the Horowhenua County ! Ohairmaft •' at Levin to consider certain prop&selaj- " ; During the discussion the letter to the Auditor-General tf as brought up, 'i and Mr Gbwer said that 1 Mr ;i Stuekey had raised th« qites- ' ; tion, but he had done it entirely' '• on his own responsibility; ahd| with- .. out consulting the LeVin people. ' ;: The chairman then read a letter 'hie 1 had received after an interview with ' the Auditor-General, which- stated: • -' " Referring to my letter of August 1 ■"'■ 29, and our conversation yesterday; ■'■ I am satisfied that the former was 1 " ; written in consequence of incdtfrect " information conveyed to me, arid; that your Board is justified in paying the interest on the loan ou.t of • general rates under the Bth «eotion • of the Looal Bodies Loan Act." i" 1 -"'
Some of those present then- 'expressed themselves, willing to pay their share of the disputed rate, and Mr Qower thought Mr Stuckey was ; entitled to three cheers, as what bad been brought out as the result of the dispute would prove the greatest blessing to Levin. , After further discussion, Mr Gower proposed, That the Horowheniia ' County Council bo requested to take ' steps to raise a loan of £5000 or more to complete the unfinished • portions of. the main road south of ; the northern boundary of Ihakara'a - reserve, and that, before a poll be taken, for such loan the Council have' *' it allocated to the different portion* 11 of the road, and en being put to the meeting was carried.
