Robbery at Palmerston.
Late on Saturday night a cash-box containing £83 16s in notes, gold and silver.; also cheques jup_d valuable, papers; fepreseirting " -k __ out were stolep.from.Mr J. Howsls bedroom at the Eoyal"hotel,*l_iimersffon. The proprietor made up his accounts as usual, and placed ;j;he cash-box under the bed. His room was locked all night, but in the morning he found ,th&: -cash;box . wa^ jg^-f evidently ha vitiglkeri taken ; #{$ time after it was placed" utfdter' T;ne bed, and while Howe was downstairs. The cash-box was found next day in a paddock near the Boundary-road. The money was taken, but the papers were leftinside, and not interfered with. The robbery : is supposed tohe the work, of spielers, a large number of whom have been in town for the past week, but no arrests have yet been made.
