Licensing Committee.

The usual quarterlymeeting of the Foxton Licensing Committee was held yesterday at noon. Present — Messrs Jehks, A hern, Little and Startup. In the absence of the chairman Mr Jenks was elected to fill that position. The minutes of the annual meeting were read and confirmed. The police report was read in which no objections were made, except the statement that there wsf '** great deal of Sunday trading taking place at each of the Licensed homes. Constable Gillespie suggested that the holders of licensed premises be notified that the Committee would refuse licenses to them at the end of the present term if Sunday trading was not abandoned.

The Committee approved of the suggestion and it was resolved' " That the Clerk be instructed to write each holder of a license, cautioning him that if Sunday trading is not abated the Bench will take into consideration at the next annual meeting the renewal of license to present holder."

. Mr Stansell desired leave to remark that he had done his best to atop Sunday trading. Last Sunday Mrs Stansell, himself and Mr Winter were out all the afternoon till halfpast five o'clock. He had been fourteen years in the business and had always been against Sunday trading.
