Very great interest was taken by the Burgesses in the Borough Election on Thursday.

Walden ... 28 On the announcement, three cheers were given for Mr McMillan, and also for the other two successful candidates. Mr McMillan thanked the electors very heartily for the position they had 1 placed him in. The enthusiastic supporters then seized and carried him, shoulder high to Whyte's hotel. Mr McPherson was similarly taken to the Manawatu hotel. Mr Austin, not being present missed the honour.
