Sheep Returns.
In laying the statistics of sheep in thejLXtolony before the House on Frwiy the Minister for Agriculture explained that the latest figures had been obtained by telegraph, tind might be subject to correction. The following are the figures, along with the increase in each district as comjmred with last year's returns: — Auckland, 7,920,000; inorease, 189, 400.' Napier, 3,877,000; increase, 287,460. Wellington West Coast
district, 3,473,000; increase, 555,213. Marlborough-NelsDn, 810,500 ; in crease, 88,869. Cauterbury-Kaikoura 5,243,000 ; increase, 390,547. Otago 4,280,000 ; increase, 810,159. Total for Colony, 18,485,500 ; increase since last year 1,721, 748. The increase in the North Island during the year was 982,073, against 739, 073 in the South Island,
