Foxton Borough Council.
A special meeting -of/ the Foxton Borough Council was held at the Library Buildings yesterday at 2.30 p.m. Present —The Mayor (G. Nye) and Councillors Stansell, Williams, McMillan, Startup and Ahem. His Worship the Mayor opened the meeting by reading out the business of the meeting which was as follows : — • To define the duties of Inspector Nuisances ; to open tenders for custodian and sexton of cemetery ; to open tenders for ploughing &c, (part of cemetery) ; Arbor Day-^tree planting. The Council went into Committee on the duties of Nuisance Inspector and after a long discussion on the question it was Proposed by Cv ■ Stansell, seconded by Cr Williams (pro forma), That the earth closet system be made compulsory in the Borough of Foxton and a by-law be made to that effect, and that a meeting of Eatepayers be called to discuss the subjeot. On being put to the meeting the proposer was the only one who voted for it, therefore the motion was lost. •'*"■ The Council now resumed its ordinary Bitting. Proposed by Cr MoMillan, seconded by Cr Startup, That the duties of the Inspector of Nuisances shall be— lst, To see that all closets in the Borough shall be Ikept clean and in good order. 2nd. He shall see that no nuisance of any description shall be committed within the Borough. :',! , ' The i . following tenders were received for custodian and sexton of cemetery :— G. Trask, £4 15s per year ; B. Gray, £5; A. Jonsoni £5 (informal) ; C. 8. Bourke, £5 (informal.) Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by. the ; Mayor, .That -G. Trask's, tender be. accepted as custodian and sexton, at, ; £4, Jss per annum — Carried; . , ' One tender only was licensed for ploughing &c. at tho Cemetery,' viz ; T. Newth, £2 10. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Stansell, That this Council oaganise an Arbor Day to be celebrated on the 4th August and that contrih.utions r be solicited.
