Mr H. M . Stanley stands as the Tory candidate for North Lambeth. The Radicals are furious at the Government arranging to dissolve.in order to prevent the borough elections that would have taken place on Saturday. The Ulster Liberals are issuing a manifesto as a counterblast to the Ulster Convention. Mr Lacky, the historian, in a letter to the Times, says the Convention is the greatest landmark in Irish history since the Volunteer Con vention of 1782. Lord Roseberry, in a speech, said he was unable to moderate his language while Lord Salisbury and others incited the God-fearing people of the North of Ireland to raise the standard of rebellion. The Convention was the echo of the Carlton Club, and not the voice of Ulster. The Small Holdings Bill has passed its final stages in the House of Lords. The Man Neill, now in custody on a charge of poisoning a number of girls, has been proved to be the writer of a letter to Fredk. Smith, M.P., demanding £2500, or threatening to inform the police that he had tried to poison one of Lambeth victims. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from their London office, viz : — Wool — Since close of last sales greasy merino super and scoured merino super are par to £d per lb higher* Greasy merino, medium and inferior, and scoured merino, medium and inferior are par to £d per lb lower. Coarse greasy crossbred, and scoured crossbred, and greasy merino lambs (medium and inferior) are par to £d per lb lower. Fine greasy crossbred has advanced £d to Id per lb since close of last series. Other descriptions unchanged The total quantity catalogued to date is 77,000 bales. Up to date 75,000 haye been aold. An objection is raised to Mr H. M. Stanley contesting a seat for the British Parliament on the grounds that he is an alien, and has not been re-naturalised. Mr W. T. Stead in the Review of Reviews discussing foreign affairs, especially as regards Egypt, declares that a change in the English Ministry would be a change for the worse. Mr Samuel Plimsoll has issued a pamphlet appealing to the Nonconformists to support the Marquis of Salisbury at the elections.
