The attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with tlie Society, which is th' 1 oldest Colonial Insfitntiun of its kind, having b«-en established in the year 1849. The results of the business for the Forfy-first year, ending 31st December. 1889, may be summarised as under : — F ingT _The nnmlier of the now policies issued was 11,GC4. Fifth — The operations of the yonr raised the arnunl income of ihe society from £1 512,280 to £1,625---185. sn increase in twelve months of £112,905. •*■ ixth — ho ftccumulaied fund was increased during the year by the sum of £742,811, equal <o 71 per cent, of the gross premiums received. Seventh — The deaths amonglives assured wero G49 undor 785 p licio-", causing claims upon tin; Society amounting to £299,002 irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number ex? ected according to the Tables us«d iu estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £488,970j the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eionxn — The roceipis from interest ami rents were £516,882, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the c'ain:s by Ninth — The expenses of managenaent were only 9.5 per cent, of the total ruceiptß. Tenth — Tho cash surp'us divided for the year 1889 wns £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 percent, on the premiums received.
