Manukau.
(from our own correspondent.) The annual meeting of house» holders took place in the schoolroom on Monday evening. The rain came down in torrents and was the means of keeping most of the settlers at home. The chairman of the outgoing committee having given an account of the work done during the year, and stated the ballance in hand, the election of the Committee was proceeded with. The following gentle j men were afterwards duly elected : — Messrs Carkeek, Huiley, Tompsitt, Saint, Bartlett, Edhouse, and Sherratt. At the meeting of the new committee held immediately afte the public meeting, Mr Huiley was appointed Chairman. It is expected that the annual examination of the school will take place in about three weeks, The railway Company does not appear to study the convenience of its customers very much, and their personal comfort not at all. Ihe miserable sheds which serve as apologies for waiting rooms would not make a decently comfortable stable. Considering the increased amount of passenger traffic it is scandalous that better accommodation is not provided. The winter is coming on now which makes the want more keenly felt. One thing that makes matters worse is the erratic manner in which trains run. One cannot be sure to half an hour at what time the train will arrive, and consequently have spend probably an hour waiting for them. We have had quite a deluge of rain lately and all the rivers are in high flood. It is reported that there are several cases of diphtheria in the neighbourhood, but in the absence of a doctor it is impossible to be certain that such is the case.
